All I want for Easter are my 2 front teeth......

Okay, so yesterday's check up at the dentist was a bit traumatizing for me...it has taken me until today to really be able to come to terms with the crazy news. (Actually, I'm really not sure if I'll ever be okay with it). Anyway, me and the four older kids all had our 6 month check ups yesterday. We were doing great until we got to Sabrina. This was her very first time seeing the dentist and she wasn't quite sure what she thought about it. She was shy, but cooperative--especially when they put on the Tinkerbell movie and headphones. :) They cleaned her teeth, took x-rays and even did a flouride treatment.

I thought we were done and good to go when the dentist asked if he could talk to me a minute. He asked me how old Sabrina was. I told him she was 2, almost 3. He repeated her age back to me just to confirm he had heard right. He had a funny look on his face so I asked him what the matter was. He brought her x-rays up on the computer and asked me what I saw. "Teeth" I responded. "What about them?" (Everything looked pretty normal to me--afterall, it's not like I have a lot of experience with reading x-rays). Anyway, the dentist began to explain that Sabrina is getting ready to lose some baby teeth. Her 2 bottom front baby teeth have totally lost their roots and are loose. And the permanent ones are starting to push through. ARE YOUR SERIOUS?!? How many 'almost 3' year olds do you know with permanent teeth? Right! NONE! And these babies are huge from the looks of the x-ray. Just where exactly are those teeth going to go? I'm afraid she is going to look like an upside down beaver. I mean, Isaac is almost 9 and still growing into his permanent teeth. How long will it take Sabrina to grow into hers??? It doesn't help that she has a pretty severe underbite either. When those teeth come in, they will have a straight shot right up the nose! My poor baby! I feel robbed. We are suppose to have a few more years before this 'not-so-cute' awkward stage began. I'm afraid Sabrina gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'early bloomer'.

Today I was feeling bad that I didn't get any pictures of Sabrina's first trip to the dentist. But then I thought that maybe I could just ask the dentist for a copy of her x-rays. Those would be some pretty awesome pictures to scrapbook! I guess I'll just have to wait until those beautiful pearly whites come in and take a picture then. That ought to be cute! On the bright side though, the visit wasn't all bad. Everyone made it out with no cavities. (The dentist probably wouldn't have dared say otherwise--with how horrified I was about Sabrina and all). He did tell me that Sabrina's case was not unheard of, just highly unusual. He has never seen anything like it before. So next time you see Sabrina, please don't be shocked if you see two really big bottom teeth sticking out of her mouth. Who knows, maybe she'll be the envy of her nursery class--do bigger teeth=more treats? I guess I should just be thankful that she's not a biter. :)

I still can't believe that! What is with our family and weird things? You are sure getting your fair share of dental experiences so far this year. Good thing Sabrina is so dang cute...it won't even phase her beautiful face. Can't wait to see pictures...this is definately blog worthy!
